"There's a saying that "shit happens"
and it happened. Alright?" - Ginger Baker
Checking out Rolling Stone this morning I see that our favorite cantankerous drummer Ginger Baker (Blind Faith / Alexis
Korner's Blues Incorporated) has a new track premier WHY? and an interesting article prefacing it.
It's not this current article (which you can read & hear the new track HERE) but a previous interview Mr. Baker had with rolling Stone's Patrick Doyle back in October 2013 that puts a smile on my face. It perfectly exemplifies who this man of legend is. Which is a guy who would rather not be bothered with any of this media stuff but knows at this point in his life he has to do what he has to do...again, irritating the crap out of himself and making me laugh at the same time.
Here are a few of my fave questions & answers from that interview (read the full Q&A HERE)
Are you
living in England now?
Yes. That's
where I am right now. You just phoned me so you know that this is an English
phone number.
What is it
like coming back and playing again?
I don't know!
What is it like – ?
Is it
exciting?
I don't
know. I don't get excited anymore.
Why not?
Because I
don't! I never have done.
The Stones
just wrapped up a tour. Have you heard them lately or what do you think of how
they're playing nowadays?
(laughs)
You're joking right?
No.
I mean
Charlie is a great friend of mine. I think the world of Charlie. When I was
living in the States, Charlie came to see me at my house and he said, "I'd
give you some tickets but I know you would never go!" I won't go within 10
miles of a Rolling Stones gig.
These few bits and bobs probably don't do the article true justice or fully show Baker's cranky humor...check the article out!
